Holy Basil Essential Oil
In Ayurvedic medicine, holy basil is considered a purifier of the mind, body, and spirit. Holy basil can be used for anxiety, hysteria, and nervous depression. It can act as a stress reducer without being a sedative. Some sources indicate that holy basil, like other basils, will enhance clarity of thought and aid memory retention. Calms muscle spasms from injury or fatigue and alleviates coughs. A good oil to diffuse. If applying tropically be sure to dilute Well.
Which Basil should I choose?
Basil and Holy Basil are somewhat different in terms of chemical composition, although they do have many therapeutic uses in common. Holy Basil contains eugenol so it has a spicier aroma and is more irritating on the skin. It is said to reduce stress and anxiety and to increase the qualities of faith and compassion, this is where its name comes from. Basil contains linalool and less eugenol so it is a little less spicy and gentler on the skin making it better for topical application. This is the most widely used variety of Basil essential oil.
